State-of-the-art office building

On the green Apollolaan in Amsterdam-Zuid, Kroonenberg Groep is creating a transparent, state-of-the-art office building designed by Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA).

The new five-storey building replaces the largely opaque JP Morgan bank office building from the late 1980s.

Historical architecture

The building is located on a corner plot at Apollolaan 171, in an area with a mix of offices, residences, and high-end luxury hotels. The design is transparent and responds to its surroundings, which are defined by Berlage's early 20th-century historic architecture.e yuck.

The side of the building facing Apollolaan is characterised by interlocking glass volumes that resemble a jigsaw puzzle. The transparency created by this visually draws the surrounding greenery into the interior.

The main entrance is situated at the corner of the office. By recessing the ground floor facade, the volumes are further reduced, creating an inviting public space at the building's entrance along Apollolaan. The building is terraced on the side facing the residential area. On this side, the facade is clad with custom-designed bricks arranged to create a woven effect.

Endowed with all manner of charms

The building's transparency allows for ample light and views for tenants. In the central core, green marble reflects the abundance of trees along Apollolaan. This material is used in the lobby for the entrance cladding.

Tracey Emin's flamingo-pink neon installation with the text “The more of you the more I love you” is once again being given a prominent place. Originally hung on the exterior wall of the former bank building, the artwork remains visible to passers-by due to the transparency of the new architecture.

The dismantling of the original bank building is complete. The existing building has been demolished down to the ground floor slab, and the existing car park has been retained. The new construction has been placed on top of this.

Over 6,500 m2 of office space will be realised for rent, with parking facilities in the basement for cars, scooters and bicycles. Construction work commenced in autumn 2021, and the office building will be completed in summer 2023.

vb&t Project Management fulfills on behalf of the Kroonenberg Groep The project management for the realisation of this (replacement) new build.
